Functional Taping and Kinesiotaping involves taping over and around muscles in order to assist and give support, or to prevent over-contraction. Kinesiotape is an elastic form of tape that does not restrict motion, but rather enhances motion by affecting the activation of the neurological and the circulatory systems. Functional taping is used as an adjunct to therapy and exercise. It can speed up the rehabilitation process by decreasing pain and swelling, and improving the patient’s tolerance to exercise and movement.

Kinesiotaping Can Help:

  • Improve muscle and joint proprioception (by providing sensory feedback)
  • Reduce muscle fatigue and spasm
  • Reduce over-contraction and over-stretching of muscles
  • Decrease swelling
  • Improve the contraction and activation of weakened muscles
  • Relieve pain by activating the natural analgesic system in our skin receptors
  • Help correct joint mechanics by increasing muscle function around the joint
  • Minimize post-traumatic or post-surgical bruising through improved circulation
